Why should I transfer my film?

Film and Video are very susceptible to wear and tear for many reasons.  It is physically handled each time it's viewed. Each pass through the projector can create scratches on the film cells. Film can get brittle as it ages, not only making it easy for it to break (which requires a splice), but if the sprocket holes get too brittle, they will strip the holes making your film virtually useless.  The chemicals can break down with age, and could get what is known as "Vinegar Syndrom" and will deteriorate the film as well.

Proper storage and handling of film is crucial!

Never store film in an attic, or basement!  The heat and the humidity will  ruin it!

It should be put back it the original boxes, or in the canisters and not exposed to sunlight, humidity, or extreme heat, but should be able to ventilate.

(Avoid Air Tight Storage Bags)

Even with ideal storage conditions, film can degrade over time.
